First ever IPL title for Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar announces his retirement from IPL.

Mumbai Indians have defeated two times winner and two times runner-up Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs and won their first Indian Premier League title. Kieron Pollard was the man of the match who scored not out 60 runs in just 32 balls. Malinga, Johnsson and Harbhajn singh took 2 wickets each.

The final match of IPL season 6 was held at Eden Garden, Kolkata. Mumbai Indians won the toss and scored 148 runs in 20 overs. Ambati Rayudu(37 runs in 36 balls) and Kieron Pollard(60 runs in 32 balls) was saviour for Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians had lost their 4 wickets at 52 runs. Slinga Malinga who was slightly out of form this season was bowled exceptionally well. He took two wickets of CSK in the first over of CSK batting. He bowled out Michael Hussay on fine sharp Yorker and then took Raina’s wicket on very next ball. Mitchell Johnsson and Harbhajan took 2 wickets each. The only player who played well was Mahendra Singh Dhoni(63 runs in 73 balls). Chennai lost this match by 23 runs.

This is the first IPL win for Mumbai Indians.  They were consistent throughout this season. Ricky Ponting who was struggling to score some runs decided to sit on bench after 5 matches. Then, Rohit Sharma becomes the captain of Mumbai Indians and he led his team very well. He was outstanding under pressure and played very good innings in this IPL.

The big news after end of the match was, Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from Indian Premier League. After end of the match, Harsh Bhogle asked him about the victory of Mumbai Indians, when he said that this was his last IPL season and happy that MI won this time. He also said to Sunil Gavaskar that 21 years he waited for World Cup and 6 years for IPL. So this is the right time to get retire. Sunil Gavskar suggested him to get retire next season after playing first IPL match as it is going to be at Wankhede, Mumbai.

Champions Trophy 2013 squad announced, no Yuvi and Gambhir.

Today, top 15 player squad for Champions Trophy has been announced by India. Both Indian left handers, Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir have been dropped. Umesh Yadav return from injury, Dinesh Karthik and Shikhar Dhawan are back in squad. Murli Vijay is a surprise package selected for top 15.

Cheteshwar Pujara the young talent of India is not available for the Champions Trophy 2013 because of injury.  Where Ashok Dinda and Shami Ahmed, who were there for last one day series against England are drop out. Ashok Dinda dropped out just because of his poor bowling performances in ongoing IPL T20. He is the most expensive bowler in this tournament. Allrounder Irfan Pathan makes his way back to the team.  Amit Mishra has been selected after his consistent bowling in IPL for Delhi Daredevils. Dinesh Karthik has selected for his outstanding batting performance in IPL 2013. He has scored 331 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 140.

In last two ODI series, Gautam Gambhir had scored just 127 runs in five ODIs against England and 34 runs in three against Pakistan. Yuvraj has only one half century in last eight ODIs. Virendra Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh are not in consideration of the selection committee.

So, the batting department is on shoulders of Shikhar Dhawan, Kohli, Suresh Raina, Murli Vijay and Rohit Sharma. All these are specialist batsmen. Dinesh Karthik is a substitute wicket Keepr for Dhoni, but he can make in top 11 just as a batsman. R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra will handle spinning department. India will go England with five pacers, Irfan, Umesh, Vinay, Bhuvneshwar umar and Ishant Sharma. These are the top 15 players who will represent India in Champions Trophy 2013.

Chris Gayle’s fastest T20 hundred broke many records.

The Indian Premier League T20 match played between Bangalore Royal Challengers (RCB) and Pune Warriors India (PWI) at Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore. Pune won the toss and elected to bowl first. Chris Gayle was in a disastrous mood came to bat with his partner T. Dilshan. He scored his first fifty runs in 17 balls and later fifty runs in only 13 balls. He completed his century by a huge six. He took 36 runs for next 75 runs.

They had scored 62 runs in powerplay without any loss of wicket. In just 8 overs RCB’s 100 runs were on board. The first dismissal was T. Dilshan, who got out when team total was 167. RCB scored 263 runs in 20 overs which is the highest T20 total ever by any team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Luke Wright bowled the perfect 4 overs each. They gave just 23 and 26 runs in their 8 overs. Rest 212 runs were scored in 12 overs at 17.83 run rate. Pune has no option but to attack RCB bowlers. Pune scored 133 runs in 20 overs and lose this match by 130 runs.

The previous record of fastest century in IPL was by Yusuf Pathan in 37 balls against Mumbai Indians. Chris Gayle made that possible in merely 30 balls. He also broke the fastest century record in T20 format of Andrew Symonds, which was in 34 balls.

  • Highest individual score in Indian Premier League (175*), previous record was by Brandon McCullum against Royal Challengers Bangalore in first IPL match 2008.
  • Most sixes in Indian Premier League (17) broke Brandon McCullum’s record of 13 sixes.
  • Most sixes in any T20 league broke Grahan Napier’s record of 16 sixes against Sussex.
  • Highest team total by any IPL team (263/5) broke Chennai Super King’s (246/5) record against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
  • Highest team total by any team in any league, previous record by Sri Lanka (260/6) against Kenya.
